If I remember correctly, this was my first
attempt at carving an image onto an ostrich
shell. I had not yet stuck my neck out to do
relief work because I failed miserably while
trying on wood. So, I drew on the eagle and
engraved the lines. Boring. I added the
circular cutaway to represent the sun. Still
borng. So, I put it up on a shelf. A few months
later, the egg let me know that it just needed
an outer border to indicate a fast and furious
dive. That did it for me.
