If you’re looking for a solid resource regarding the unique art of
Eggshell carving, you’ve definitely come to the right place! The
Eggshell Sculptor is the only publication of its kind in the world,
dedicated exclusively to the cutting, carving, etching, engraving and
sculpting of eggshells.
This publication is a labor of love that has evolved over several
years of research and personal exploration. When I bought my first
ultra high-speed drill in 1988 I was thrilled to discover, as a mostly
colorblind artist, that it could be used to carve eggshells. Up to that
point I had been working with pen and ink as my creative medium,
but within a surprisingly short time, the allure of sculpting delicate
eggshells had totally captivated me. As I traveled alone down the

path of learning a new art, I searched high and low for resources which would help shorten my trial
and error journey. Although I was able to find literally hundreds of books and videos directed towards
the creation of Fabergé-style egg art, Pysanky and other traditional styles, I couldn't find a single word
written about eggshell carving.
So, I dedicated myself to practice and experimentation and developed a number of reliable techniques
that served me quite well. I could not, however, shake the intense desire to find other creative people
involved in this art, people with whom I could share its joys and explore new ideas. Late in 1996 this
dream was to become a reality, for I stumbled onto the Internet. What a wonderful medium for
communicating with people all over the world! Within a few short months I had “met” several other
artists who had also experienced a great deal of frustration at the lack of information available about
our beloved art. More importantly, I found someone who was willing to develop my first website. From
there, things started happening very quickly as other eggers found my website. Suddenly, I was barraged with questions about
tools and techniques from artists who - like myself - had felt so isolated for so long.
I seriously considered writing a book about this ever-so-intoxicating art form, but with a large family and other businesses to
run, I knew that my biggest hurdle would be to stay continually motivated to write. Then it hit me. I had been spending a
great deal of time answering a few questions hundreds of times and commiserating with other artists about the appalling lack
of resources available to us, when I had the solution right in front of me. I’d use my years of experience to become that
resource by producing a publication through which, not only could I answer hundreds of peoples’ questions once and share in
the thrilling exchange of ideas, but it would also require me to write on a regular basis with deadlines!
And that’s how The Eggshell Sculptor was born, early in 1998. I had originally intended to produce a newsletter of no more
than one or two pages but little did I know how many people craved each and every scrap of information they could get their
hands on about carving eggshells. The newsletter quickly took on a life of its own and has become a 16 page publication that
more closely resembles a magazine than a newsletter. (See below for a sample.) Every issue is absolutely packed with creative
tips, articles, patterns, lessons, pictures, reviews, resources and supplies geared towards people who now carve, or want to
learn how to carve, eggshells of all kinds. You can become part of this caring group of artists by subscribing to The Eggshell
Sculptor today!
A one year subscription (six issues) is only $40 in the US, $42 in Canada and Mexico and $48 USD elsewhere. Every single

I find it bittersweet to share with you the news that once I've completed the Tenth
Anniversary Issue of The Eggshell Sculptor (Feb/March 2008), there will be no
more new issues. It has been a painful decision for me as TES has been an
integral part of my life for ten full years and has taught thousands of people how
to enjoy the unique art of carving eggshells. On the other hand, I will now be able

to dedicate myself to my Video Training Series, I'll be adding tons of items to this web site and I will be expanding my
teaching activities by scheduling classes more regularly and also taking the show on the road, so to speak, holding classes
in various other parts of the country. And after all, back issues of TES will always be available. But if almost 1,000 pages
of this instructional magazine still don't quite satisfy your needs, then I'm sure the training videos and personal instruction
most certainly will.
